A particularly touching PhD comic

The only reason I’m going anywhere over the winter break is because my mother generously bought tickets for both Husband and I to visit her, brother, and the rest of her family in Indianapolis. I’m really looking forward to it!

  1. Hi,
I just found your blog by accident and read that you want to be a mommy and work toward your Ph.D. I just wanted to tell you that it is possible. I just finished my doctorate at Vanderbilt this week. It has taken me ten years from the start of my masters, but I have had three children in that time. My husband and I started our Masters at the same time. While I did not take classes as fast as I would have liked, I did not drive myself crazy either. In the end, I ended up with both. I think for me anyway, the secret has been treating graduate school like a hobby and not letting it consume your life. My advice, having been where you are, is to find a boring government job which gives you free time and good health insurance. Then you can still pursue both your dreams. Hope that helps.
